If you’re nosy, you’ll probably want to know what I’ve been up to work-wise. Here are some project snippets to satisfy your curiosity (and compel you to hire me).

Webcopy.

Client: GigAccountant.

The project: new webcopy and business slogan.

“GigAccountant should be lighthearted and humourous—but still demonstrate we know what the hell we’re doing.”

The brief.

Accountants get a bad rap. But they’re not always dull and they don’t all wear polyester suits. This client was keen to shake off the stereotype without losing integrity.

Slogan:

GigAccountant – unbiased jargon-free accountancy help.

Webcopy:

Ask an accountant for money guidance.

You can do that right here.

You’ve googled “accountant for small businesses near me” and already you regret it. Trying to find accountancy services when you’re a freelancer is taxing (we hope you like puns). It takes ages to do and it’s boring. You don’t speak their language so the information available is hard to understand.

GigAccountant acts as your personal guide.

We’re not like other websites you might have seen. We don’t have memberships or take commission from accountants. We won’t try to confuse you with jargon and Latin phrases written in italics.

You don’t want that.

What you want is unbiased help without an agenda.

We’ll find the ideal person to sort out whatever it is you need sorting. We demystify the regulations and accountancy talk.

Client feedback.

“I knew Sarah’s dry humour and focus were just what I needed to write the copy for my website. She is bringing colour into the drab world of accountancy and has dragged me along with her. Learning about SEO through trial and error is all very well, but I wanted my web copy to be right from the start. I love it. Sarah has grasped my sprawling brief and wrangled it into something people will actually find, bother to read and understand. No small achievement! Working with Sarah was a pleasure. Her communication is excellent and all timing expectations were met to the minute. Great organisation, humour and outcome. I’m very happy.”

Client: Smartup Visuals.

The project: copyedit existing webcopy.

“We want to maintain our edge. Clients choose us because we sit between creative and corporate.”

The brief.

Like many creatives, Smartup Visuals were cool (something only an old fart like me would say). But being fresh, bold and young doesn’t mean you can’t be taken seriously and that’s exactly what Smartup Visuals wanted.

Webcopy before the edit:

We are a London based Live Scribing and Visual Communication studio.

We translate words into pictures that tell the story of your organisation, and help your audience learn about it.

Our creative expertise helps transform how businesses communicate.

In today’s visual communication age, words simply don’t do the job anymore. Visual storytelling is here to build a connection between you and your audience. How often do big corporations get to present large amounts of information to their clients and employees including strategies, statistics, and data?

Webcopy after the edit:

We’re a live scribing and visual communication studio in London.

We take your words and turn them into images. Those visuals can tell your brand story or any message you need to bring to your audience.

Our years of experience and creative know-how will transform how your business communicates.

In this brave, new digital world, words aren’t the only way to present a narrative. Visual storytelling can offer a unique connection between the message and the observer.

Meetings and conferences tend to be boring when we rely on text and hard-to-consume stats. Recording ideas visually will keep your audience engaged where words alone might struggle.

Client feedback.

“Sarah is an experienced copywriter who follows her processes efficiently and in a professional manner. She not only breathes life into dry business language but makes it easy to digest. Sarah did a great job writing our webcopy and she provided advice and feedback where necessary. With high confidence, I will return to Sarah for her brilliance of the written word.”

Lina Navickaite, Smartup Visuals

Client: Workplace Connect.

The project: new taglines and meta titles/descriptions.

“We need new meta tags to help hook prospects. Also, our webpage taglines need a refresh.”

The brief.

IT companies explain techie stuff to people who don’t speak the lingo. This client didn’t want anything too tasty, just neutral language that was easy to understand.

Client feedback.

“Sarah was very easy to work with and was quick to get things done, setting clear timelines and meeting them. This greatly helped with launching our website on schedule. We were very pleased with Sarah’s content, which put a creative and interesting spin on our offering, and made our website much more interesting to read!”

The project: website content audit.

“I get most of my leads via word of mouth but it feels sensible to review my website for search.”

The brief.

This client had a neglected website. Although getting leads had never been a problem, he took the changing economic climate as his cue to become visible online.

Outcome.

The client already had a good idea of what I would find reviewing his content. He knew that attracting prospects to his site would be tricky. But having that confirmed allowed him to make the best choices, not only for his website but for his business.

“I was unsure whether my website was worth Sarah’s review, as it’s small, niche and slightly uncared-for——and the target market isn’t known for patience when it comes to hunting things down online. So I worried that there wouldn’t be much to say. But very quickly came enough insight to reorganise the business——not just the website, with some fairly uncomfortable takeaways, delivered with the grace and style on display in all Sarah’s writing. It was uncomfortable in the sense that I hadn’t reckoned on re-thinking as much as is needed, and with the honest truth that SEO isn’t going to work magic for what we’re doing. But it was still a valuable basis for sorting out what needs to be sorted out. Sarah knows her stuff, and the advice is practical, honest, and genuinely constructive.”

Daryl Hewison, META eight

Client: Syncity.

The project: blog audit.

“I’ve just written things as and when—without little thought to the message or SEO.”

The brief.

Blogging without a strategy is a tale as old as time and this client, like many others, wanted direction.

Outcome.

This client began to understand how blogging could improve traffic by being helpful to his audience.

“Sarah reviewed the blog on my company site. Having it organised, structured and of use to the business wasn’t something I’d planned or thought about. I usually write as a topic takes me. Sarah’s review is honest, straightforward and packed full of recommendations. Some are quick and easy to implement, others will take longer. It has also given me ideas on how to use the blog going forward. If you want someone to be brutally honest with you then I wouldn’t look any further than Sarah. Her feedback on my blog has opened my eyes to just how badly I was using a valuable resource for my business.”

Richard Godfrey, Syncity
