Cookie & Privacy Policy

What personal data do I collect and why do I collect it?

I collect names and email addresses for the purpose of email marketing. If you decide to subscribe to my blog, I’ll store that information with my email marketing platform: Mailerlite.

By default, WordPress doesn’t collect any personal data. It only collects data shown on the User Profile screen from registered users.

Comments

When you leave a comment on my site, I’ll collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address, and browser user agent string. This helps spam detection. An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you’re using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact forms

I keep contact form submissions for a certain period for customer service purposes, but I don’t use that information for marketing purposes.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you don’t have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content. That may include tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account, and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

I use Google Analytics, if you want to find out how they deal with data, check this out: https://policies.google.com/.

I also like to use RankMath for SEO performance. You can find out more about what they do with your data here: https://rankmath.com/privacy-policy/

By default, WordPress doesn’t collect any analytics data.

Who do I share your data with?

I don’t share any of your data. The information collected from blog sign-ups is stored with my email marketing service provider, Mailerlite. You can find out about their privacy policy here: https://www.mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy

By default, WordPress doesn’t share any personal data with anyone.

How long do I keep your data?

I keep contact form entries for six months, analytics records for a year, and customer purchase records for ten years. If you leave a comment, that comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights do you have over your data?

If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data that I’m obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where do I send your data?

I don’t send your data to any party but visitor comments may be checked through my automated spam detection service – Akismet. You can find out how they use your data here: https://akismet.com/privacy/

How do I protect your data?

I won’t divulge your data to anyone unless otherwise stated above. Any contact forms are directed to one private email address.

If you have any concerns about your data and how I use it, email me at: info@thesarkytype.com
